Haikus and RSS feeds - they were meant to be

As per this haiku:

RSS now works!
View public, friends, or search feeds!
What a great feature.

That’s right! We now have working RSS feeds for all sorts of pages on the site. For example, let’s say you want an RSS feed that shows any haiku containing the word “burrito?” Easy!

What if you want to stalk a particular user - someone who has incredible wit? Also easy!

And of course, you can always subscribe to the public feed, to see the latest haikus as they happen. Exciting!

Check them out. As always, if something looks amiss, or you have a better idea of how things work, let us know!

Feature requests

We’ve heard from some of our users about requests for features and fixing of minor annoyances. We hear you!

Things we’re currently working on:

* A way to see every single haiku that’s been posted on Hikoo. Currently, you can only view the 15 most recent haikus. We’ll fix this so you can go all the way back to the beginning!

* Automagically post haikus to Twitter from Hikoo.net - Right now, you can have haikus you post on Twitter being automatically posted here! But we’re looking into how to do it the other way around.

* Debating options for deleting / flagging “failed haikus” that were a syllable or two off. Do we want to delete them? Allow people to edit them? Or feature a Hall of Shame?

If you have any feature suggestions or comments, don’t hesitate to let us know!

Post Haikus from Twitter!

Alright! Any haikus that you post on your Twitter account can now be automatically posted here at Hikoo.net! Sweet.

How do you enable this feature?

1.) You must already have a registered account with Hikoo.net. If you don’t have one, you can get one for free here.

2.) View your settings for Social Network links on your account screen. Scroll to the bottom and enter your Twitter user name and save changes.

3.) Now post a message on Twitter - and make sure you include the hastag “#haiku”! Use this exact format, with a slash separating each line:
“Line1 / Line2 / Line3 #haiku”

4.) Post it! Your haiku should automatically appear on Hikoo.net within about 5 minutes, and already be associated with your user account! Give it a shot!

If you have any questions or cannot get something to work properly, let us know!

A couple of updates…

Fixed a few random user issues and added two things as well.

1.) You can now share any haiku on Twitter by clicking the “Share this on Twitter” link on any haiku’s page.

2.) Users can now view who considers them a friend. Click the “View Fans” button on any user’s profile.

Beta Testing Open!

Alright, we opened up beta testing this evening to a small group of friends who are busy pounding away on the website. It’s exciting! And great to listen to everyone’s feedback and suggestions!

Also, there are some top notch haikus being written as well. Can’t wait to see what people will wind up writing as we move forward!

Slowly, but surely…

I think the website is nearly feature complete for now! As development starts to wind down, we’ll open it up to friends and family to beta test.

And then launch it. Yes!

Another Sneak Peak

Working on user profiles this evening. Here’s what we have so far! Currently, shows where a user is from, how many haikus they have written, when they joined, links to some other social network profiles they might have. Planning on adding links to friends and favorites lists as well.

I love Threadless. And this T-Shirt. Really, we need to get it and adopt it as the official uniform of hikoo.net.
